Soft Ground
Soft Ground Football Shoes
What they’re for. The ugly pitches. Wet grass, muddy goalmouths, cut‑up touchlines – surfaces where your plant foot slides and every turn feels like a gamble. SG boots solve that with longer, deeper studs that bite into soft natural ground. You keep your footing when you accelerate, tackle, or open your body to strike.
How the plate works. Most soft ground boots use screw‑in metal studs – longer in the heel and forefoot. That mix gives you traction and stability in straight lines, side steps, and sudden shifts. On a proper soft pitch, that extra bite turns hesitation into commitment. Centre backs step in. Midfielders pivot out of pressure. Forwards stay upright when they shift and shoot.
Where they belong. Wet, soft natural grass. Period. On firm ground, those studs feel aggressive and uncomfortable. On 3G, they're a hard no. If your pitch is mostly firm or artificial, look at FG or AG instead. SG is for the days when the grass has give and the game becomes a battle for traction.
Practical tip. Metal studs need checking – tighten them before every match. And never wear SG on shallow turf; you'll feel every stud under your foot.
Get the surface right. Choose the soleplate for the conditions. Your boots stop being the story. Your feet stay set, your touch stays calm, and you don't slip at the worst moment.
